Game 1

Both teams engaged in high risk, high reward maneuvers and fights. The back-and-forth game was intense from the very beginning.

Early action in the top lane leads to 100 Thieves’ Sniper deftly securing first blood then immediately dying while fighting in a 1 v 3 skirmish. This sequence set the tone for the early game leading to two more 3 v 1 tower dives from both sides. The game rapidly became a bloodbath.

By 10 minutes, both top laners saw plenty of action! Sniper was 1/2/0, while Dignitas’ top laner, Srtty, was 0/3/1.

Going into the second dragon fight, 100 Thieves had a slight gold lead. Dignitas killed the objective, but lost two members on their retreat from the pit.

Despite early struggles, Dignitas stole the first rift herald from 100 Thieves while Srtty claimed the tier-1 tower in the bot lane. Dignitas’ perfect coordination in this sequence helped them reduce their gold deficit to only 2.0k. Right after this skirmish both teams rotated bot-side. Dignitas beat 100 Thieves in a team fight just after the Thieves slew the dragon.

Dignitas rode their momentum and aced 100 Thieves in their very next fight to claim a 1.5k lead and the Atakhan. They were not in control of the match.

In wicked fashion, 100 Thieves were able to rally and 5-0 ace Dignitas in a team fight and secure the baron and reclaiming a 1.5k gold lead as the reward at 28 minutes.

In the late game, after many skirmishes and lead changes, 100 Thieves were able to find a pick on Isles and secure the Baron, while Dignitas killed Sniper. The fight reignited at the pit of the Elder Dragon moments later. In a series of epic fights, 100 Thieves were able to kill Dignitas and come away with the Elder buff.

Utilizing the Elder buff, 100 Thieves were able to crack open the base of Dignitas and claimed the hard-earned victory in 46 minutes.

The game was an absolute brawl with the cumulative kill count reaching 47.

This chaotic first match of the series could be summarized just as FBI stated, “Random fights to win the game.”

Game 2

This was a serious mental test for Dignitas. After losing a fast-paced, 46-minute game, they were now in a position where they had to win two games in a row. With the previous game being taxing on them, how did they respond in game 2?

Dignitas slowed the pace down and relied on smart, tactical movements. 14 Minutes in, Dignitas lead the kill count 4-3, had three void grubs and held a 1.1k gold lead. They slowly, methodically won each lane.

100 Thieves mid-laner, Quid, made some questionable decisions that directly lead to two of his deaths. Despite Quid’s foibles game, 100 Thieves were able to get the first three dragons putting them on soul-point.

The game developed into a game suitable for 100 Thieves’ team composition. Players were spread out throughout the map, which allowed them to create more angles of attack.

At 20 Minutes the game was fairly even. Team fights were slightly skewed in favor of Dignitas however, their prime objective was to deny the Thieves their fourth dragon while playing around their jungler, Sheiden.

Dignitas shut down 100 Thieves’ first attempt at dragon soul wining a bloody team fight, but they were unable to complete the objective. Instead of attempting the dragon again, 100 Thieves tricked Dignitas and attacked the Baron. They claimed the objective and only lost River in the retreat. In doing this, they surrendered the dragon to Dignitas leaving the game completely even at 26 minutes.

100 Thieves utilized Baron buff to perfection by getting a pick onto mid-laner Keine and taking two tier-2 towers, which evaporated Dignitas’ 2.4k gold lead to just 0.3k.

The very next team fight, the Thieves got a clean ace against Dignitas and made the final push to close the game and series.

Conclusion

Despite 100 Thieves sweeping Dignitas, the series was extremely competitive from the opening minutes of the first game. Dignitas put up an outstanding fight and maneuvered well.

100 Thieves looked extremely coordinated heading into team fights and consistently took out their primary target first in order to flip the fight in their favor.

Defeating Dignitas punches their ticket to the playoffs.
