FlyQuest v Dignitas
If Dignitas wins the series, they secure a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs. This series is extra special because if they manage to win the series 2-0, they also steal first place seeding away from FlyQuest in the Group B standings. If FlyQuest wins the series with any record, Shopify Rebellion takes the second-place sport away from Dignitas.
The objective for Dignitas is simple: win, and they’re in; lose, and they have to play in an elimination match in order to qualify for the lower-bracket.
Game 1
In typical FlyQuest fashion, they dominated the early game. Just six minutes into the match, they called for a four-man tower dive in the bottom lane and came away with three kills and the Feat of Warfare buff.
This early play allowed Fly to win each lane, grab the dragon, take all three Void Grubs and collapse the first turret. The momentum never slowed down and FlyQuest was able to snowball their lead into something insurmountable for Dignitas. By 20 minutes, they boasted a 5.1k gold lead with Bwipo alone leading opponent Srtty by 3.5k.
Dignitas had no recourse in the game. They were put into the dirt early and often throughout the game. The loss they took means they must reverse-sweep Fly in order to hold onto second place in the standings.
Game 2
Dignitas put up a much better fight in the early game. While they were still losing the game from the beginning, they kept the match more competitive by grabbing all three Void Grubs and Rift Herald.
Despite achieving their objectives early, by midgame, Dignitas had lost two of the three feats and allowed FlyQuest to collect the first three dragons putting them on Soul Point. 17 minutes into the bout, the game was rapidly devolving into another game 1.
Fly ballooned their lead and never looked back.
Dignitas looked very uninspired in the series. They did nothing but play catch-up from the beginning of both games and were visibly dejected with each unsuccessful play.
With the victory over Dignitas, Fly is guaranteed the top position in Group B and an upper-bracket run in the playoffs. FlyQuest plays Cloud 9, the leader of Group A, next week in the battle for first place seeding in the regular season.
Shopify Rebellion finishes in second place in the Group B and is guaranteed an upper-bracket playoff run as well.
Disguised v LYON
This is a very important series for both teams. Whichever squad loses the game becomes the fourth seed into the cross-group play next weekend and would have to play 100 Thieves for lower-bracket play-ins.
Game 1
First blood came at 10 minutes when Disguised attempted a gank in the bot lane. LYON kited them out, bought enough time for reinforcements to arrive, and they were able to turn the fight take down ADC Scary-Jerry.
Disguised claimed both Feats of Strength and Warfare as well as take all three tier-one towers by 18 minutes. While they were not winning by much, but they were still ahead.
LYON’s mid-laner Saint is a large reason the game did not spiral out of control. His mastery of Yone proved fruitful time and time again during team fights and when looking for picks. He carried several impactful team fights and was instrumental in wrestling the lead away from Disguised, which lead to the eventual victory for LYON.
Disguised said pre-game they were focused on getting the players in lockstep in terms of the way they see with the game. Their ability to recognize opportunities and their communication was on full display. They had clearly been practicing a lot and it showed on the Rift. They were just unable to pull off a win, but they showed real improvement.
Game 2
This was a great game. The back-and-forth really made it hard to look away from the screen. Neither team allowed the other to get too far ahead, and the picks, engages for the team fights were solid.
The game began to break open on a play where LYON was mid-dragon fight, which allowed Disguised to collapse their mid-lane tier-2 and 3 turrets. After defeating the dragon, LYON immediately engaged. Oddielan landed a 3-man Skarner ult, which decimated Disguised. They dominated the next two team fights with Saint, once again, standing out. LYON was able to claim both Baron and Chemtech Drake as well as a 6.5k gold lead for their efforts.
LYON closed out the series after getting a clean ace onto Disguised.
With LYON winning the series 2-0, they take 3rd place in Group A and play Dignitas in an elimination game next week. Disguised goes on to play 100 Thieves.
